All you need to know about buttocks augmentation…

Hello guys, this time I will tell you all I learned about buttock implants and buttocks augmentation – different techniques, expectations and results, including a piece of information given to me by an American lady from Austin, Texas that was a big eye opener to me since I personally had another perception about these procedures.

She came to San José, Costa Rica for a buttocks augmentation treatment for the second time, so she told me in our meeting the full adventure of her medical vacation. The first time she came, she wanted to do both liposuction and Brazilian buttocks lift and that way she could tune up her abdomen and waist line at the same time in order to get the booty she always wanted.  This method, though, would get her only half way to her goal.  The liposuction would be great but she did not have enough fat to get the rounded booty she wanted.

So, how about butt implants?

Here are some facts:

Silicone butt implants are firm (since you’ll be sitting on them). The biggest advantage of butt implants over a Brazilian butt lift (fat transfer to the buttocks) is that the results are predictable and permanent.  Implants are more reliable at plumping up and providing projection to the middle and lower portions of the butt, which are areas that a Brazilian butt lift often fails to address.

Because of the nature of it, the fat transfer in a Brazilian butt lift usually fills the upper third of the buttocks but rarely in the mid and lower portions.  Buttocks Implants, because they are anatomically created, can also create more projection in a flat butt.  So, even if the buttocks is very flat, they will have a significant more rounded result after placement.

Advantages of butt implants:

Implants are a good option for people who don’t have enough extra fat for a Brazilian butt lift—and for those who want a procedure with fewer risks and more lasting results.

Implants can provide a more uniform and proportional rounder shape than a Brazilian butt lift.

The volume enhancement is permanent—implants will not melt away like fat transferred during a Brazilian butt lift.

There’s no worry of rupture (like with breast implants) because the silicone used is semi-solid gel.

Disadvantages

You’ll have two weeks of downtime—though that’s quicker than the three to four weeks you’d need to take for a Brazilian butt lift recovery.

If you have excess skin or sagginess from losing a lot of weight, a traditional butt lift (surgery) or lower buttock tuck (also surgery) might be needed in addition to the implants.

Choosing the right doctor is important (suggestions below) because skill is needed to ensure the right shape and  size is chosen.  You want the Butt implants to look as natural as a Brazilian butt lift and be placed correctly within the muscle.

Risks can include infection, seroma (fluid buildup) and pain that can last longer than the typical two-week recovery period.

What happens during butt implant surgery?

The procedure is done under general anesthesia, so you’ll be totally asleep. The surgeon makes an incision right along your butt crack (so there won’t be any visible scarring). Then each implant is inserted either within your gluteal muscles or over them.

Most surgeons are strong proponents of the intramuscular technique. Buttock implants should really be placed within the gluteus muscles. If they’re placed on top, there is risk of complications such as unnatural contour and visibility, sagging over time, the implant flipping over, or thinning out of the fat and skin layers. There’s also a higher incidence of capsular contracture, which is the formation of a capsule of hardened scar tissue around the implant that can be painful or distorting.

Once the implants are firmly in place, your surgeon stitches up all the tissue layers and the incision. Your surgeon may choose to insert thin surgical drain tubes to reduce any fluid buildup during healing, and a compression garment may be used to reduce swelling and keep everything in place while you heal.

You’ll be groggy when you wake up, so be sure to have someone with you to take care of you.

What to expect after butt implant surgery

Plan to take a solid two weeks off from work and normal life. If you have drains, you’ll have to empty them a few times a day until they’re removed at a follow-up appointment, usually a week later, and you’ll need to wear your compression garment for up to three weeks.

To give the incision time to heal before you put significant pressure on it, you shouldn’t sit on your butt for the first two weeks of healing. This makes activities like driving and working very challenging. You can sleep on your back, stand, walk, and kneel facing forward in a chair during those first two weeks. The only time you should be sitting is to use the restroom.  And speaking of that: your doctor may recommend stool softeners to prevent straining (you may be constipated from the pain medication), and wiping with baby wipes, while your incision heals.

You’ll probably have some bruising, swelling, and pain for a few weeks, and the discomfort may spread from your butt to your thighs. It feels like deep muscle soreness after a long workout.

When you head back to work, you must sit on a pillow to avoid putting pressure on your tender incision—especially if you spend most of your day at a desk. Most people are able to begin to return to their normal activities, including sex and exercise, four to six weeks after having the surgery.

When will you see results and how long will they last?

Your butt will look rounder immediately, but it’s often not quite perky in the middle and lower thirds. Your new shape will slowly expand and reveal itself over the next six to seven months as the swelling goes down and the tissues relax over the implants.

Because buttock implants cannot rupture or leak, they are considered permanent, unlike breast implants which have a recommended lifespan of about 10 years. However, you might need a revision if you desire a change in size, your body changes significantly over time necessitating a shape or size adjustment, or if complications arise.

Butt implant surgery risks

My friend having the procedure, told me that anyone researching the difference between butt implants and a Brazilian butt lift should know that the risks from butt implants are far less serious that a Brazilian buttocks lift, which I always thought it was the other way around.

Going to an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon significantly lowers the chance of things going wrong. When this procedure is done by a reputable specialist who only places the implants into an intramuscular pocket, the risk of complications is no higher than that of breast implants.

As I wrote in my previous article about tobacco, smoking can increase the chances of complications during surgery and slow the healing process during recovery, so your doctor may ask you to stop at least two weeks prior to and for three weeks after your procedure.

Regarding money, my friend told me that the cost of buttocks implants in her home town in the U.S. was around $10000 to $11000 average price, and that the ratio of savings was huge since the cost in Costa Rica is only $6850.

For all of you looking into buttocks augmentation choices, I hope this articles helps in your final decision. As a disclaimer, nothing in this article should be taken as medical advice, It is only general observations, so please be sure to ask your surgeon all of your questions and follow his/her advice.

Also, please remember to do your homework and research all about the subject and also about the plastic surgeon you are going to choose.
